  • PROCLAMATION

    WHEREAS, the City of Coeur d’Alene, in the state of Idaho, has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and the Coeur d’Alene Airport have an immense economic impact on Coeur d’Alene; and

    WHEREAS, according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers study, Contribution of General Aviation to the US Economy, general aviation in Idaho contributes over $1.1 billion to the state’s total economic output; and

    WHEREAS, the Idaho Transportation Department, Division of Aeronautics, reports that Idaho has 17 public-use general aviation airports. According to FAA data, these airports serve 4,834 pilots and2,966 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Idaho’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safety; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastucture represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVE WIDMYER, Mayor of the City of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Coeur d’Alene and declare the month of October to be

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I Have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of Coeur d’Alene to be affixed this 17th day of October, 2016.
