WHEREAS, the City of Cody, in the state of Wyoming, has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and,
WHEREAS, general aviation and the Yellowstone Regional Airport have an immense economic impact on Cody; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Wyoming Aviation Economic Impact Study, general aviation airports in the state contribute over $73 million in economic impact annually; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Wyoming Aviation Economic Impact Study, general aviation airports in Wyoming support 410 jobs and a total payroll of over $14.4 million; and,
WHEREAS, according to the FAA, Wyoming is home to 8 repair stations, 2 FAA-approved pilot schools, 364 student pilots and 283 flight instructors. In addition there are 34 fixed base operators in Wyoming, according to the AC-U-KWIK directory. According to Helicopter Association International, there are 133 heliports in Wyoming; and,
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Wyoming’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and,
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Nancy Tia Brown, Mayor of the City of Cody, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Cody and declare June 2016 as GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH in the City of Cody.
