WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses, communities, and the City of Clarksburg; and
WHEREAS, the City of Clarksburg has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports, and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, General aviation in West Virginia contributes $616 million or $333 per capita to the state’s economy; thus, impacting the City of Clarksburg, as well; and
WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in response to natural disasters, medical emergencies, search and rescue operations, and a wide range of critical resources; and
WHEREAS, West Virginia airports provide access for businesses and tourists to isolated areas, enabling businesses to remain part of the Nation’s Air Transportation System and connected to the world’s global marketplace and;
WHEREAS, many communities in West Virginia depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists, and visitors to our state; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in West Virginia is directly tied to the future growth and prosperity of the state.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Catherine A. Goings, Mayor of the City of Clarksburg, do hereby proclaim October 2015 as:
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
in the City of Clarksburg and encourage all citizens to recognize the vital strategic resource that aviation is and the role it plays in economic development.
