  • PROCLAMATION

    WHEREAS: the city of Clanton in the state of Alabama has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation and local airports, including Chilton County Airport, have an immense economic impact on the city of Clanton; and

    WHEREAS: Alabama is home to 92 public-use airports that serve 7,491 pilots and 4,763 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS: the state is home to 57 repair stations and 9 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,545 student pilots and 1,438 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation contributes an annual economic impact of over $1.7 billion to Alabama’s economy; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation not only supports Alabama’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS: the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    THEREFORE, I, Billy Joe Driver, Mayor of Clanton, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the city of Clanton and declare November 2014 to be General Aviation Appreciation Month.
