City of Buffalo
WHEREAS, General Aviation and Community Airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS, The state of New York has a significant interest in the continued vitality of General Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, There are 90 public-use airports that are used by 17,449 pilots and 6,457 general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, According to New York Department of Transportation, the economic impact of general aviation airports is $1.06 billion. The total economic impact of aviation totals over $50 billion; and
WHEREAS, General Aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit and direct Congressional oversight is necessary to ensure stable funding of this system; and
WHEREAS, New York is home to 72 charter flight companies, 129 repair stations, two fractional providers and 16 flight schools operating 85 aircrafts, which provide 235 jobs. In addition, there are 78 fixed-based operators in the state; and
WHEREAS, Many communities in New York depend heavily on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our State.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, BYRON W. BROWN, Mayor of the City of Buffalo, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 2014 as
General Aviation Appreciation Month
in the City of Buffalo and recognize the significance of this industry and the benefits that it provides to our citizens.
