Mayor and City Council of
WHEREAS, the city of Brunswick in the State of Georgia has significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports. General aviation and local airports, including Malcolm McKinnon Airport have immense economic impact; and
WHEREAS, Georgia is home to 106 public-use airports, which serve 18,325 pilots and 5,228 active general aviation aircraft. It also is home to 97 fixed based operators, 128 repair stations, 11 FAA-approved pilot schools, 3,008 student pilots and 3,184 flight instructors. General aviation in Georgia contributes over $1.2 billion to the state’s economy annually; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Georgia’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely. The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Cornell L. Harvey, as Mayor of the City of Brunswick, along with my fellow Commissioners do hereby proclaim November 2014 “GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH” and declare general aviation as a vital strategic resource to the City of Brunswick.
