GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
WHEREAS, the City of Beatrice in the State of Nebraska has a significant interest in the continued vitality general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and the Beatrice Municipal Airport have an immense economic impact on the City of Beatrice; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska is home to 81 public-use airports, which serve 3,498 pilots and about 2,013 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska is home to 71 fixed-base operators, 12 repair stations, 305 heliports, 3 FAA-approved pilot schools, 759 flight students and 494 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in Nebraska contributes over $1.2 billion to the state’s total economic output; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Nebraska’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, land management, agriculture, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Stan Wirth, Mayor of the City of Beatrice, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Beatrice and proclaim May as “General Aviation Appreciation Month”.
