    WHEREAS, the City of Baton Rouge in the state of Louisiana has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and local airports have an immense economic impact on the City of Baton Rouge; and

    WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 62 public-use airports, which serve 5,696 pilots and 3,264 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 61 fixed-based operators, 37 repair stations, 520 heliports, 7 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,215 flight students and 870 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation in Louisiana contributes over $966 million to the state’s economy annually and supports more than 9,300 jobs; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Louisiana’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Melvin “Kip” Holden, Mayor-President of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge, hereby do proclaim

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Baton Rouge and the Parish of East Baton Rouge, to be affixed upon this first day of March in the year of our Lord, two thousand and fifteen.
