CITY OF ANACORTES PROCLAMATION
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
WHEREAS General aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses, industry, ranches, and farms; and
WHEREAS Washington State has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports, and airport operators; and
WHEREAS Washington State has 134 public use airports serving 18,727 pilots and 9,201 general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS public use airports support 248,500 jobs, $15.3 billion in wages, and $50.9 billion in total economic activity, Washington is home to 45 charter flight companies, 110 repair stations, and 31 flight schools operating in 151 aircraft and providing 310 jobs with fixed-based operators in the state; and
WHEREAS according to a 2006 Merge Global study, annually general aviation accounts for $3.18 billion in economic impact and supports 7,615 jobs in the state of Washington within 25 mile radius of Anacortes, general aviation has a local economic impact of over $125 million and supports over 1800 jobs; and
WHEREAS the City of Anacortes and the state of Washington have a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation as a resource that drives economic growth for our community’s farms, and sustains critical services such as medical care and disaster relief.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Laurie Gere, Mayor of the City of Anacortes, do hereby proclaim June 2015 as
General Aviation Appreciation Month
in the City of Anacortes, and invite all citizens to recognize this occasion.
