  • PROCLAMATION

    WHEREAS, the City of Altus in the State of Oklahoma has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and Altus/Quartz Mountain Regional Airport have an immense economic impact on the City of Altus; and

    WHEREAS, Oklahoma is home to 136 public-use airports, which serve 7,889 pilots and 3,915 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Oklahoma is also home to 91 fixed-base operators, 128 repair stations, 449 heliports, 8 FAA-approved pilot schools, 2,113 flight students and 1,249 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation in Oklahoma has an economic output of over $2.5 billion annually and not only supports Oklahoma’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Jack O. Smiley, Mayor of the City of Altus, Oklahoma do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Altus and declare the month of May as

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of Altus, Oklahoma to be affixed.
