    WHEREAS, the City of Alexandria in the state of Louisiana has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions. aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and the Esler Regional Airport have an immense economic impact of the City of Alexandria; and

    WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 62 public-use general aviation airports, which serve 5,696 pilots and 3,264 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 61 fixed-base operators, 37 repair stations, 520 heliports, 7 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,215 flight students and 870 flight instructors; and

     WHEREAS, general aviation airports in Louisiana contribute $966 million to the state’s economy annually; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Louisiana’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; and

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jacques M. Roy, Mayor of the City of Alexandria, Louisiana, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Alexandria and declare March as
