    Proclamation 

    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports, such as Esler Regional Airport in Central Louisiana, play a vital role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our business and farms; and

    WHEREAS, Alexandria and the State of Louisiana have a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, and community airports, and airports operators; and

    WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 60 fleet-based operators, 35 repair stations, eight flight schools, 520 heliports, and 62 public use airports that serve 9,572 pilots and 4,891 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation contributes an annual economic impact of $2.05 billion to Louisiana’s economy and helps to improve the overall quality of life by providing essential emergency medical transportation, enhancing public safety by assisting law enforcement, and transporting business and leisure travelers to their destinations quickly and safety; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructures represents an important public benefit and direct Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; and

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jacques M. Roy, Mayor of the City of Alexandria, Louisiana, do hereby proclaim April 28, 2014; as

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
