  • Wyoming Governor’s Proclamation

     

    Whereas, General Aviation and Community Airports play a vital role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and

    Whereas, the State of Wyoming has a significant interest in the continued vitality of General Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and

    Whereas, Wyoming is home to 40 general aviation airports, which serve 2,645 pilots and 1,907 general aviation aircraft; and

    Whereas, Wyoming airports contribute $353 million or $621 per capita, to the state’s economy yearly, sustaining 14, 068 jobs in the state directly and indirectly; and

    Whereas, Wyoming’s airports provide access for tourists and businesses to many isolated areas, while enabling remote local businesses to become part of the national and global economies. General aviation visitors spend $31 million per year in-state; and

    Whereas, Wyoming is ranked eighth in the nation for total economic contribution per capita; and

    Whereas, general aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and

    Whereas, Wyoming is home to 15 charter flight companies, 9 repair stations and 2 flight schools operating  aircraft and providing 18 jobs. In addition, there are 30 fixed-based operators in the state; and

    Whereas, many communities in Wyoming depend heavily on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our State.

    Now therefore, I, Matthew H. Mead, Governor, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2011, in the State of Wyoming as

    General Aviation Appreciation Month
