WHEREAS; Wisconsin’s 131 public-use airports provide reliable access to regional and world markets for travelers and businesses- accommodating about 4.4 million passengers and more than 118 million pounds of cargo in 2013; and
WHEREAS; Wisconsin’s strong foundation of industry research and manufacturing know-how leaves the state uniquely positioned to advance in the global aerospace industry; and
WHEREAS; historically, 85 percent of new or expanded manufacturers in the state located within 15 miles of a jet-capable airport; and
WHEREAS; the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has demonstrated that aviation and airports generate about $7 billion annually in economic activity and support 90,900 jobs, which provides $3.5 billion in personal income to Wisconsin residents; and
WHEREAS; aviation not only drives Wisconsin’s economy, it improves our overall quality of life by providing vital emergency medical transportation, enhancing public safety by assisting law enforcement, and transporting leisure travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS; “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” will take place July 28 – August 3, 2014 as people from across the world converge in Oshkosh to take part in the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Scott Walker, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim July 28 – August 3, 2014, as
throughout the State of Wisconsin, and I commend this observance to all of our citizens.
