STATE OF WISCONSIN
OFFICE of the GOVERNOR
WHEREAS; aviation has played a significant role in our lives since 1909 when A.P. Warner, a Beloit-based inventor and businessman became the first American to purchase an airplane; and
WHEREAS; the love of flight continues to be fostered with our state’s youth through efforts such as the Department of Transportation’s Aviation Careers and Education (ACE) program which provide disadvantaged youths with valuable work experience, mentoring, and first-hand knowledge about aviation careers; and
WHEREAS; Wisconsin’s 127 public-use airports provide reliable access to regional and world markets for businesses – accommodating almost 5 million passengers and more than 118 million pounds of cargo in 2015; and
WHEREAS; the Wisconsin Department of Transportation has demonstrated that aviation and airports generate approximately $7 billion annually in economic activity and support more than 90,000 jobs, which provide $3.5 billion in personal income to Wisconsin residents; and
WHEREAS; aviation not only drives Wisconsin’s economy, it improves out overall quality of life by providing vital emergency medical transportation, enhancing public safety by assisting law enforcement, and transporting leisure travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS; “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” will take place July 25-31, 2016 as people from around the world converge in Wisconsin to take part in the world’ largest annual gathering of aviation enthusiasts – the Experimental Aircraft Association’s “AirVenture Oshkosh”;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Scott Walker, Governor of the State of Wisconsin, do hereby proclaim July 25 – 31, 2016 as
throughout the State of Wisconsin and I commend this observance to all of our citizens.
