The Texas aviation industry is a critical component of our economy and out way of life. It brings families together, transports essential cargo to businesses, helps to control pests that can wreak havoc on crops and performs a variety of other vital functions.
Texas’ aviation history goes back more than 100 years. Today, there are nearly 400 general aviation airports in the Lone Star State, and more than 31,000 general aviation aircraft are registered here. From pilots to mechanics to service industry workers in our airports, thousands of Texans rely on the aviation industry for employement. General aviation and related activities generated $14.6 billion in direct, indirect and induced economic activity in the State of Texas, representing $580 in activity per capita.
In recognition of the importance of aviation to our society, many Texas and national aviation organizations designate the month of November as a time to acknowledge this industry.
At this time, I encourage all Texans to learn more about aviation and to recognize the contributions of the hardworking professionals who work in all sectors of aviation industry.
Therefore, I, Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, do hereby proclaim November 2012 to be
