STATE OF TENNESSEE
BY THE GOVERNOR
WHEREAS, air carriers and general aviation airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and agriculutral activities; and
WHEREAS, the State of Tennessee has a significant interest in the continued vitality of aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, Tennessee boasts 79 public commerical and general aviation airports, serving 12,343 pilots and 6,614 general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, air carrier airports in Tennessee enplane 20,667,321 passengers and 20,101,585,745 pounds of cargo; and
WHEREAS, general aviation overall contributes $2,570,000,000 or $431 per capita to Tennessee’s economy; and
WHEREAS, organizations like the Tennessee Aviation Association, the Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Business Aviation Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and National Air Transportation Association recognize and promote the interests and importance of aviation in Tennessee and throughout the world; and
WHEREAS, many communities in Tennessee depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bill Haslam, Governor of the State of Tennessee, do hereby proclaim September 2012 as
AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
in Tennessee and encourage all citizens to join me in this worthy observance.
