    WHEREAS, aviation and aircraft manufacturing plays a critical role in the lives of our citizens, businesses and farms; and

    WHEREAS, Tennessee has 80 airports serving 2,481 general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, given our state’s geography, a great many businesses and communities depend upon General Aviation aircraft and utility aircraft of all types for access to medical treatment, mobility, economic opportunity, disaster relief and a wide range of critical resources; and

    WHEREAS, use of General Aviation by businesses and Tennesseans are directly tied to the future growth and prosperity of the State, and

    WHEREAS, Tennessee’s economy realizes almost annually as a result of aviation activity; and

    WHEREAS, nearly 100,000 jobs result from economic activities directly or indirectly related to aviation, creating nearly $2 billion in wages and salaries; and

    WHEREAS, the State of Tennessee has a significant interest in the continued vitality and health of General Aviation, aircraft manufacturing, airline and air cargo industries, educational institutions, aviation organizations, civil and military airports that generate an employ thousands of Tennesseans; and

    WHEREAS, aviation has been a vital and active part of Tennessee’s economy since the early 1900s

    NOW THEREFORE, Be it Resolved that I, Phil Bredesen, Governor of the Great State of Tennessee hereby proclaim April 2010 as:


    in the Volunteer State and encourage all citizens to recognize the vital strategic resource that aviation is in Tennessee

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the official seal of the State of Tennessee to be affixed at Nashville in this 11th day of March, 2010.
