    State of South Dakota

    Office of the Governor

    Whereas, The state of South Dakota has significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, public airports, and airport operators; and,

    Whereas, The South Dakota Department of Transportation has 70 public-use airports across the state, serving 2,247 pilots and over 1,260 general aviation aircraft; and,

    Whereas, General aviation contributes to the state’s economy, medical care, transports goods to Native American reservations, supports forest fire fighting, and boosts economic development for small communities; and,

    Whereas,The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents and important public benefit, and direct Congressional oversight is necessary to ensure stable funding of this system; and,

    Whereas, The communities within South Dakota depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourism, and visitors to our state:

    Now, Therefore, I, Dennis Daugaard, Governor of the state of South Dakota, do hereby proclaim June 2015 as
