    WHEREAS, General Aviation and Community Airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms.

    WHEREAS, The state of Ohio has a significant interest in the continued vitality of General Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airport operators.

    WHEREAS, Ohio is home to 163 airports. Of the 105 publicly owned airports, 98 solely serve general aviation. 90%A of Ohio’s population is within a 30 minute drive to one or more airports able to land a business aircraft (5,000 foot long runway).  There are 24,988 pilots and 10,113 general aviation aircraft.

    WHEREAS, Ohio general aviaiton airports contribute nearly $5.56 billion or $478 per capita, to the state’s economy yearly.  General aviation airports alone are responsible for $1.7 billion in economic activity annually.  The total economic impact of aviation in Ohio is $10.5 billion.

    WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters.

    WHEREAS, the total employment impact of all airports in Ohio is 142,800 jobs with an annual payroll of nearly $287.3 million.  The total direct and induced impact was 17,352 jobs and $498.0 million in payroll.

    WHEREAS, Organizations like the Ohio Aviation Association, the Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Business Aviation Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and National Air Transportation Association recognize and promote the interests and importance of aviation in Ohio and throughout the world.

    WHEREAS, Ohio is home to 60 charter flight companies, 131 airport stations, two fractional providers, and 13 flight schools operating 95 aircraft and providing 251 jobs.  In addition, there are 124 fixed-based operators in the state.

    WHEREAS, Many communities in Ohio depend heavily on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our State.

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, John R. Kasich, Governor of the State of Ohio, do hereby recognize December 2012 as


    throughout Ohio and encourage all Ohioans to join in its observance.
