A Proclamation by the Governor
WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in economic development, the lives and well-being of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions and community airports; and
WHEREAS, many communities in Nevada depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state; and
WHEREAS, Nevada is home to 49 public-use aviation airports, which serve 6,811 pilots and 2,246 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Nevada is home to 31 fixed-base operators, 31 repair stations, 139 heliports, 5 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,096 flight students and 1,341 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation is vital to many businesses in Nevada that use general aviation aircraft and local airports to increase productivity, reach far-off markets and move personnel, equipment and products; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in Nevada has a economic output of $275 million annually and supports 3,384 jobs; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Nevada’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief; and
WHEREAS, Nevada and our nation’s aviation infrastructure represent an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; and
WHEREAS, Organizations like the Nevada Airports Association, Nevada Business Aviation Association, Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Association of State Aviation Officials, National Business Aviation Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Helicopter Association International and the National Air Transportation Association recognize the promote the interests and importance of general aviation in Nevada and throughout the world.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2015, as
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH IN NEVADA
