    WHEREAS, General aviation and community airports play a vital role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operations of our businesses and farms; and

    WHEREAS, The State of Nebraska has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports and airport operators; and

    WHEREAS, Many communities in Nebraska depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state; and

    WHEREAS, There are 80 public-use airports in Nebraska, serving 3,498 Nebraska pilots and 2,013 general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Nebraska is home to 71 fixed-base operators, 12 repair stations and 3 FAA-approved pilot schools; and

    WHEREAS, General aviation is vital to many businesses in Nebraska that use general aviation aircraft and local airports to increase productivity, reach far-off markets and to move personnel, equipment, and products; and

    WHEREAS, General aviation in Nebraska has an economic output of $1.2 billion  annually and supports 7,900 jobs; and

    WHEREAS, General aviation not only supports Nebraska’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, and disaster relief; and

    WHEREAS, The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit and direct congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; and

    WHEREAS, Organizations like the Nebraska Aviation Council, Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, Nebraska Association of Airport Officials, Nebraska Aviation Trades Association, Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Association of State Aviation Officials, National Business Aviation Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Helicopter Association International and the National Air Transportation Association recognize and promote the interests and importance of general aviation in Nebraska and throughout the world.

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pete Ricketts, Governor of the State of Nebraska, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM the month of May 2016 as


    in Nebraska, and I do hereby urge all citizens to take due note of the observance.
