STATE OF NEBRASKA
WHEREAS, General aviation and community airports play a vital role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS, The State of Nebraska has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing,educational institutions,aviation organizations,community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, Many communities in Nebraska depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state; and
WHEREAS, There are 81 public-use airports in Nebraska, which serve 3,498 pilots and 2,013 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska is home to 71 fixed-base operators, 12 repair stations, 305 heliports, 3 FAA-approved pilot schools, 759 flight students and 494 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation is vital to many businesses in Nebraska that use general aviation aircraft and local airports to increase productivity, reach far-off markets and to move personnel, equipment and products; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in Nebraska has a economic output of $1.2 billion annually and supports 7,900 jobs; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Nebraska’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief; and
WHEREAS, The nation’s aviation infrastructure represent an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; and
WHEREAS, Organizations like the Nebraska Aviation Council, Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, Nebraska Association of Airport Officials, Nebraska Aviation Trades Association, Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Association of State Aviation Officials, National Business Aviation Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Helicopter Association International and the National Air Transportation Association recognize the promote the interests and importance of general aviation in Nebraska and throughout the world.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Pete Ricketts, Governor of the State of Nebraska, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM the month of May 2015 as
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
In Nebraska and I do hereby urge all citizens to take due note of the observance.
