State of Nebraska
Whereas, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as the operation of our businesses, industry, ranches and farms; and
Whereas, the State of Nebraska has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports and airport operators; and
Whereas, Nebraska has 81 airports serving 3,627 pilots and 2,756 general aviation aircraft; and
Whereas, across the state, 5,250 Nebraskans are employed in air transportation, and it estimated that tourism via general aviation supports 403 additional full-time jobs in Nebraska and $10.6 million in payroll; and
Whereas, Nebraska is home to 13 charter flight companies, 12 repair stations, numerous flight schools, over 70 fixed-based operators and over 160 aerial applicators; and
Whereas, organizations like the Nebraska Aviation Council, Nebraska Department of Aeronautics, Nebraska Association of Airport officials, Nebraska Aviation Trades Association, the Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Business Aviation Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials, Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association and National Air Transportation Association, recognize and promote the interests and importance of aviation in Nebraska and throughout the world; and
Whereas, many communities in Nebraska depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state.
Now, Therefore, I, Dave Heinman, Governor of the State of Nebraska, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 2012, as
General Aviation Appreciation Month
In Nebraska, and I do hereby urge all citizens to take due note of the observance.
