WHEREAS, Louisiana has a significant interest in the vitality of aviation aerospace, educational institutions, aviation organizations, airports and airport operators for the preservation, protection and promotion of commercial, general and business aviation activities across the state; and
WHEREAS, aviation is critical to the health, safety and welfare of Louisiana by providing benefits to the community in commercial passenger services, freight services, emergency medical services, agricultural services, law enforcement, community service flights, search and rescue operations, oil/gas industry operations and economic growth; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana’s Airport System includes 69 publicly-owned airports serving 5,585 pilots operating 4,960 general aviation aircrafts; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana airport system has a $6.7 billion annual economic impact on the stat’s economy and supports 58, 853 jobs; and
WHEREAS, air travelers and tourists spent nearly $2.0 billion in Louisiana in 2011, supporting over 22,800 jobs in the tourism industry; and
WHEREAS, organizations like the Louisiana Airport Managers & Associates, Louisiana Agricultural Aviation Association, Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Business Aviation Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials recognize and promote the interests and importance of aviation in Louisiana and across the nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bobby Jindal, Governor of the State of Louisiana, do hereby proclaim March 2014 as
AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
in the State of Louisiana.
