    TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:

    WHEREAS, Aviation employs thousands of Kentuckians and accounts for $1.75 billion in economic activity, and Aerospace led Kentucky Exports in 2013 with $5.6 billion;

    WHEREAS, With 59 publicly owned airports, 112 private airstrips and more than 6,500 pilots in Kentucky, general aviation aircraft supports a variety of services vital to Kentucky businesses and communities, including business mobility and economic opportunity, agricultural spraying, police and fire protection, access to medical treatment, disaster relief and resources critical to those in isolated areas; and

    WHEREAS, Kentucky has 15 charter flight companies, 37 repair stations and 5 flight instruction schools, and Eastern Kentucky University offers a four-year program for both aviation administration and professional pilot degrees; and

    WHEREAS, The Air Medical System is the feast growing segment of general aviation in Kentucky, with 25 Air medical rotor and fixed-wing aircraft located in 25 different counties, responsible for saving hundreds of lives every year; and

    WHEREAS, Kentucky is home to 143 private heliports throughout Kentucky, located near hospitals and commercial businesses, multiple large cargo facilities; UPS, DHL, Packages Express, and Southern Air and airports located at Rough River, Kentucky Dam Village and Lake Barley state parks promoting the continue flow of tourists;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVEN L. BESHEAR, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, do hereby proclaim July 2014 as

    AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    in Kentucky.

    DONE AT THE CAPITOL, in the City of Frankfort the 30th day of June, in the year of Our Lord Two Thousand Fourteen and in the 223rd year of the Commonwealth.
