    WHEREAS, the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation has partnered with stakeholder groups to host the second annual Kansas Aviation Expo for the sake of promoting and supporting the state’s aviation industry; and

    WHEREAS, over a period of three days, the Fly Kansas Air Tour will take numerous pilots to nine different communities across Kansas to promote multiple aspects of aviation such as agriculture, space exploration, helicopter piloting, flight simulator training, unmanned aerial systems, military aviation, business aviation, and aircraft manufacturing; and

    WHEREAS, Barrington Irving and Amelia Rose Earhart, two highly respected pilots that have each flown separate missions around the world promoting aviation education will travel to Kansas and help promote aviation education; and

    WHEREAS, Barrington Irving will fly in his Flying Classroom, a business jet transformed into a virtual classroom that highlights the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Aviation education; and

    WHEREAS, hundreds of Kansas high schools students will arrive at the National Center for Aviation Training in Wichita to take part in an interactive career fair designed to highlight the myriad of aviation career, education and scholarship opportunities; and

    WHEREAS, organizations such as the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Kansas Association of Airports, Kansas Commission on Aerospace Education, National Business Aviation Association, and Wichita Aero Club have invested in developing the Kansas Aviation Expo; and

    WHEREAS, the State of Kansas remains endowed with a significant history of aviation pioneers and events, such as Amelia Earhart and whose hoes legacies remain associated with Cessna, Lear, Boeing and others, all recorded in world-class museums in Kansas and the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC; and

    WHEREAS, Kansans today have access to approximately 140 public use airports that add $10B to the state’s economy, and afford access to critical services such as air ambulance, as well as aerial applicator and business operations;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sam Brownback, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF KANSAS, do hereby proclaim September 22nd-September 26th, of 2014, as

    Aviation Appreciation Week

    in Kansas and urge all citizens to join in this recognition.
