    BY THE


    WHEREAS, The State of Kansas is enriched with great aviation history including aviation pioneers such as Dwane Wallace (Cessna), Walter and Olive Ann Beech, Lloyd Stearman, Al Mooney, William and Moya Lear, Amelia Earheart, and many more who broke barriers and aimed “to the stars with difficulties”; and

    WHEREAS, Kansas is home to numerous businesses, big and small, who serve a vital role in the aviation industry, is the second largest contributor to the Kansas economy, and contribute more aircraft to the world economy than anywhere else; and

    WHEREAS, Kansas is home to approximately 140 public use airports who serve as the front door to their respected communities, provide emergency air ambulance access, and allow for economic development anywhere in the state; and

    WHEREAS, organizations such as the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Alliance for Aviation Across America, Kansas Association of Airports, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, Kansas Association of Airports, Kansas Aviation Museum, Kansas Commission on Aerospace Education, National Business Aviation Association, Experimental Aircraft Association, and Wichita Aero Club recognize and promote the interest and importance of aviation in Kansas and throughout the world; and

    WHEREAS, In September of 1911 Kansan Albin Kasper Longren marked the first flight of a Kansas-built airplane when flew his pusher-type biplane Topeka I; and

    WHEREAS, In September of 2013, the private sector, the public sector, academia and others have joined together to create the inaugural Kansas Aviation Expo which will be hosted by the Kansas Commission on Aerospace Education and the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation at the National Center for Aviation Training in Wichita and will serve as a gathering place for aviation leaders, innovators, and enthusiasts alike:

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sam Brownback, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF KANSAS, do hereby proclaim September of 2013, as
