    To All To Whom These Presents May Come, Greetings:

    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and

    WHEREAS, the state of Indiana has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, many communities in Indiana depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state; and

    WHEREAS, Indiana is home to 117 public-use aviation airports, which serve 9,342 pilots and 3,387 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Indiana is homes to 72 fixed-base operators, 56 repair stations 131 heliports, 9 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,724 flight students and 1,655 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation is vital to many businesses in Indiana that use general aviation aircraft and local airports to increase productivity , reach far off markets and move personnel, equipment and products; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation in Indiana has an economic output of $5.9 billion annually and supports 32,132 jobs; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Indiana’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and health care services, law enforcement, firefighting, and disaster relief;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Michael R. Pence, Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby proclaim October 2016 as


    in the State of Indiana, and invite all citizens to duly note this occasion.
