    EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT

    INDIANAPOLIS

    PROCLAMATION

    TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENT MAY COME, GREETINGS:

    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and

    WHEREAS, the state of Indiana has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, many communities in Indiana depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state; and

    WHEREAS, Indiana is home to 115 public-use aviation airports, which serve 9,684 pilots and 3,675 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Indiana is home to 72 fixed-base operators, 58 repair stations, 650 heliports, 4 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,724 flight students and 1,655 flight instructors;and

    WHEREAS, general aviation is vital to many businesses in Indiana that use general aviation aircraft and local airports to increase productivity, reach far-off markets and move personnel, equipment and products; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation in Indiana has an economic output of $5.9 billion annually and supports  32,132 jobs; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Indiana’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief; and

    WHEREAS, organizations like the Indiana Aviation Association, Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Association of State Aviation Officials, National Business Aviation Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association, Helicopter Association International and the National Air Transportation Association recognize and promote the interests and importance of general aviation in Indiana and throughout the world;

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Michael R. Pence, Governor of the State of Indiana, do hereby proclaim October 2015 as

    General Aviation Appreciation Month

    in the State of Indiana, and invite all citizens to duly note this occasion.

    In Testimony Whereof, I  hereto set my hand and cause to be affirmed the Great Seal of State. Done at the City of Indianapolis, this 28th day of September in the year of our Lord 2015 and of the Independence of the United States 240.
