    Proclamation

    Whereas, General Aviation and Community Airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and

    Whereas, the State of Idaho has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and

    Whereas, Idaho is home to 119 public-use general aviation airports, which serve 5, 059 pilots and 4,020 general aviation aircraft; and

    Whereas, the economic affect of general aviation in Idaho is over $429 million; and over 23,000 residents owe their jobs to aviation in Idaho, which represents 2.9 percent of all jobs in the state, with a total economic impact of aviation in Idaho of $2.1 billion; and

    Whereas, Idaho’s general aviation airports provide 4,096 jobs in Idaho, with an estimated payroll of $133 million; and

    Whereas, general aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and

    Whereas, Idaho is home to 46 charter flight companies, 28 repair stations, and seven flight schools operating 22 aircraft and providing 58 jobs, in addition to the 46 fixed-base operators in Idaho; and

    Whereas, many communities in Idaho depends heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state;

    Now, Therefore, I, C.L. “Butch” Otter, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim September 2011 to be

    General Aviation Appreciation Month
