    Proclamation

    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and

    WHEREAS, the State of Idaho has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, avition organizations, community airports and airport operators; and

    WHEREAS, according to PricewaterhouseCooper study on the contributions of general aviation to the U.S. economy, general aviation in Idaho contributes over $1.1 billion to the state’s total economic activity; and

    WHEREAS, according to a PricewaterhouseCooper study on the contributions of general aviation to the U.S. economy, general aviation supports 7,900 jobs in Idaho, resulting in $342 million in labor income; and

    WHEREAS, the Idaho Transportation Department, Division of Aeronautics reports that Idaho has 117 public-use general aviation airports, and according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) data these airports serve 4,834 pilots and 2,966 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, FAA data shows that Idaho is home to 29 repair stations, five FAA-approved pilot schools, 902 student pilots and 809 flight instructors. and there are 91 fixed-base operators registered in Idaho and listed in the AC-U-KWIK directory, and according to the Helicopter Association International there are 257 heliports in Idaho; and

    WHEREAS, many Idaho communities depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim June 2016 to be

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    in Idaho.

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I Have hereunto set my hand and

    caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Idaho at the

    Capitol in Boise on this 1st day of June in the year of our Lord

    two thousand and sixteen and of the Independence of the

    Statehood of Idaho the one hundred twenty-sixth.
