    Proclamation

    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and

    WHEREAS, the State of Idaho has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports and airport operators; and

    WHEREAS, Idaho has 117 public-use airports, serving 4,834 pilots and 2,966 general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, according to the 2010 Idaho Airport System Plan, the annual economic impact of general aviation in Idaho is over $426 million; the same report found that the total annual economic impact of aviation in Idaho is $2.1 billion; Idaho airports and visitors who arrive by air are responsible for 4 percent of the state’s estimated gross domestic product (GDP); and

    WHEREAS, Idaho’s general aviation airport create 4,096 jobs annually, with an estimated payroll of $133 million; and

    WHEREAS, according to the Idaho Transportation Department, approximately 23,000 residents of Idaho owe their jobs to the aviation industry, representing 2.9 percent of all jobs in the state; and

    WHEREAS, America’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit worthy of stable funding; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and

    WHEREAS, many communities in Idaho depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, do hereby proclaim June 2015 to be

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    in Idaho

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to be affixed the Great Seal of the State of Idaho at the Capitol in Boise on this 1st Day of June in the year of our Lord two thousand and fifteen and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred thirty-ninth and of the Statehood of Idaho the one hundred twenty-fifth.
