Statement in Observance of General Aviation Appreciation Month
Whereas, General Aviation and Community Airports play a vital role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
Whereas, the continued vitality of General Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations is important to the daily functioning of our society; and
Whereas, Delaware is home to 11 public use airports, and the aviation industry in Delaware contributes $989 million to the state’s economy yearly; and
Whereas, the state is home to six charter flight companies, six repair stations, and one flight school, sustaining 15,500 jobs for Delawareans; and
Whereas, many communities in Delaware rely on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continues flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state; and
Whereas, organizations like National Business Aviation Association, the National Association of State Aviation Officials, the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association, National Air Transportation Association, and recognize and promote the interest and importance of aviation in Delaware and throughout the world.
Now, Therefore, We, Jack A. Markell, Governor, and Matthew Denn, Lieutenant Governor, go hereby declare July 2011
General Aviation Appreciation Month
In the State of Delaware, and urge all citizens to recognize the importance of General Aviation in the First State.
