    Proclamation

    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and

    WHEREAS, the State of Colorado has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports, and airport operators; and

    WHEREAS, Colorado is home to 75 airports, which serve 24,118 pilots and 8,074 general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Colorado general aviation airports contributes $2.1 billion or $479 per capita, to the state’s economy annually; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in the state’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation sustains 22,650 jobs and a payroll of nearly $750 million; and

    WHEREAS, Colorado is home to 40 charter flight companies, 69 repair stations, and 16 flight schools operating 141 aircraft and providing 212 jobs; and

    WHEREAS, many communities in Colorado depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state;

    Therefore, I, John Hickelooper, Governor of the State of Colorado do hereby proclaim June 2011,

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    in the State of Colorado.
