STATE OF ARKANSAS
TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENT COME – GREETINGS:
WHEREAS: General aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS: The State of Arkansas has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, education institutions, aviation organizations, community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS: According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Arkansas has 91 public-use airports, which serve 5,048 pilots and 3,053 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS: According to the Arkansas State Airport System Plan, general aviation airports in Arkansas support an economic value of more than $494 million annually; and
WHEREAS: According to the Arkansas State Airport System Plan, more than 77 percent of all annual aircraft operations in the state are attributable to general aviation; and
WHEREAS: Many communities in Arkansas depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state; and
WHEREAS: The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ASA HUTCHINSON, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim February 2016, as
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
throughout Arkansas and encourage all citizens to join us in its observance.
