  • Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Chairman of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, introduced H.R. 1108, a bill to insulate the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from a government shutdown through access to the Airport and Airways Trust Fund.

In response, Selena Shilad, Executive Director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America released the following statement:

“We applaud Chairman DeFazio for introducing this legislation, which would allow our air transportation system to continue to operate safely and efficiently, even in cases of government shutdown.

“Our Airport and Airways Trust Fund supports investments in the airport and airway system, as well as critical modernization projects and technological upgrades, and ongoing FAA operations.

“Our U.S air transportation system is the safest and largest in the world. It supports air service to big towns but is also a lifeline to small towns and communities around the country.  It is critical that it continues to operate consistently and efficiently.  We look forward to working with Members of Congress to protect and support our air transportation system.”

Formed in 2007, the Alliance for Aviation Across America is a non-profit, non partisan coalition of over 6,300 individuals representing businesses, agricultural groups, FBO’s, small airports, elected officials, charitable organizations, and leading business and aviation groups that support the interest of the general aviation community across various public policy issues.
