House Appropriations Committee Leaders Weigh in on Governance of Our Air Traffic Control System

Washington—Yesterday, House Appropriations Chairman Harold Rogers (R-KY), Ranking Member Chairwoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Chairman Mario Diaz Balart (R-FL) and Ranking Member David Price (D-NC), issued a letter to House leadership opposing turning over authority over our air traffic control system to an entity outside of Congress.  Last week, Senate Appropriations Committee leaders sent a letter to Commerce Committee leaders echoing similar concerns.

The letter comes as Congress is about to consider legislation to reauthorize of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

According to the letter, ”we have concerns about any proposal that would transfer all decisions on financial investment and fees—on airlines and the public—to an independent entity that is not accountable to the people we serve.”

That letter can be viewed here.

Formed in 2007, the Alliance for Aviation Across America is a non-profit, non-partisan coalition of more than 6,300 individuals representing businesses, agricultural groups, FBO’s, small airports, elected officials, charitable organizations, and leading business and aviation groups that support the interest of the general aviation community across various public policy issues.
