  • WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Alliance for Aviation Across America has commended Hendersonville Mayor Barbara Volk for proclaiming December “General Aviation Appreciation Month.”

General aviation airports in North Carolina support over $4.9 billion in total economic output.

“Mayor Volk’s proclamation helps highlight the economic benefits and valuable service that general aviation provides to the city of Hendersonville and the state of North Carolina,” Selena Shilad, executive director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America, said in a news release. “We sincerely thank the Mayor and the City of Hendersonville for recognizing this vital industry.”

The proclamation not only cites the economic impact of general aviation and local airports like the Hendersonville Airport, but also the importance of investing in this infrastructure to encourage enthusiasm in flying and grow the next generation of pilots and aviation professionals, as well as to encourage future growth through investments in sustainability.

Formed in 2007, the Alliance for Aviation Across America is a nonprofit, non-partisan coalition of more than 6,300 individuals representing businesses, agricultural groups, FBO’s, small airports, elected officials, charitable organizations and leading business and aviation groups that support the interest of the general aviation community across various public policy issues.
