  • Leesburg Executive Airport will receive $900,000 from the federal government for improvements, according to Virginia’s U.S. senators.

The funding for the Leesburg airport – along with $4.92 million for Reagan National and $2.83 million for Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport – was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program, which is an initiative within the Department of Transportation.

“We’re excited to announce this funding that will help improve travel for Virginians,” U.S. Sens. Mark Warner (D) and Tim Kaine (D) said in a joint statement. “These grants will revitalize our airports with much-needed upgrades to help ensure safer travel in and out of the commonwealth.”

The improvement program supports infrastructure improvement projects at airports across the country, including runways, taxiways, aprons, terminals, aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles and snow removal equipment, according to the senators.
