  • ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7) – Young ladies in the Roanoke Valley now have a chance to see what a job in flight is all about.

The Roanoke Blacksburg Regional airport will host Women Can Fly this June. It’s the fourth time the airport has participated in the state-wide event. It’s a program designed to teach girls and young women about jobs in the male-dominated aviation industry.

A handful of participants will get to go up in the air and tour air traffic control, as well as talk with women working in all areas of private and commercial aviation.

“They can talk to women that are working in various facets of aviation, whether it’s being a flight crew member, working as a mechanic, working as a meteorologist, as an air traffic controller, in all these kinds of capacities,” said Brad Boettcher, head of marketing at the Roanoke Blacksburg Regional Airport.
