  • Aiken Regional Airport will host a press conference and open house on Aug 20, 2018 to promote South Carolina Aviation Week. The Press Conference will take place from 9-10 am, followed by an Open House until noon. Congressman Joe Wilson will attend the event, which is open to the public.

This event involves a partnership with the South Carolina Aviation Association to host events at participating airports across the state. The purpose of these events is to educate the public about the importance of aviation in South Carolina. This year, Governor Henry McMaster has proclaimed the week August 19-25 as South Carolina Aviation Week.

South Carolina has six (6) commercial service airports, sixty (60) general aviation airports, and five (5) military airfields that are essential underpinnings to South Carolina’s diversified business base, increasing population, and growing tourism industry.

Airports support and assist South Carolina through many activities including recreational flying, providing a gateway to communities and tourist attractions, accommodating agricultural spraying, supporting air cargo and air freight shipments, helping law enforcement, supporting the military and its operations, providing access in times of emergency, and supporting medical needs and the medical profession.

Many businesses in South Carolina rely on aviation, both commercial service and general aviation airports, for the efficient transport of people and goods.

Aviation, commercial service airports, general aviation airports, and military airfields in South Carolina support more than 122,000 jobs that have a current annual payroll estimated at $4.8 billion. Annually, at least $16.3 billion in economic activity can be traced to aviation in South Carolina. Aviation and airports also contribute millions of dollars each year in tax benefits to the state and local governments.

Aiken Regional Airport is located at 129 Aviation Blvd.
