  • Washington, DC – Today, the Alliance for Aviation Across America applauded Governor Paul LePage for recognizing the value of general aviation. The Governor recently issued a letter recognizing the value of general aviation to the state of Maine. In Maine, general aviation accounts for over $103 million in economic output annually.

“General aviation and the 70 public-use airports throughout Maine ensure that rural and urban communities alike throughout the state have access to vital services, as well as that businesses within these communities have the opportunity to compete and stay connected throughout the region,” said Selena Shilad, Executive Director of the Alliance for Aviation Across America. “We thank Governor LePage for his recognition of general aviation and look forward to working with him in the future on issues important to aviation.”

“Helicopters and general aviation serve a critical function in supporting Maine’s law enforcement and medical transportation, as well as coastal and inland search and rescue operations,” said Matt Zuccaro, the President of Helicopter Association International. “We appreciate Governor LePage’s recognition of this vital industry and look forward to working with him in the future.”

    According to the letter:

“Our communities depend on general aviation to support Maine’s response to emergencies, natural disasters, and rescue missions; as well as on our community airports for continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our great state.”
