  • Thursday U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced more than $1 million is going to one lucky Northern Michigan airport.

The city of Charlevoix is getting $1.1 million to rehabilitate the municipal airport’s runway.

The money comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration Runway Incursion Mitigation Program.

Senator Stabenow says it’s way to help better connect the city and the rest of the state and country.

“We know that people want to live in beautiful northern Michigan, but be connected with the rest of the state and the country and that involves making sure that our airports have what they need to be successful.”

The Runway Incursion Management Program helps airports across the country to prevent unauthorized aircraft, vehicles and people from getting onto runways and taxiways.
