  • Three Michigan airports are getting a share of more than $2.1 million for runway work and other projects.

U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters of Michigan announced the funding this week, saying the Northwestern Regional Airport Commission will get more than $1.5 million to rehabilitate runways at Cherry Capital Airport in Grand Traverse County and acquire land adjacent to the airport for development.

Bay County and the cities of Midland and Saginaw will get more than $500,000 to rehabilitate runways and maintain pavement at MBS International Airport. Marquette County will get more than $175,000 to rehabilitate runways, improve structural integrity and remove debris at Sawyer International Airport.

The money is from the Federal Aviation Administration as part of the Runway Incursion Mitigation Program.
