  • The Helena squadron of the Montana Civil Air Patrol wing is having an open house Thursday, April 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Helena Regional Airport’s Fire House 1, 2150 Airport Road.

The entire Helena community is invited to come share some refreshments and see what the volunteer Civil Air Patrol is doing and how you and your children can join in the activities.

The squadron has recently acquired from the U.S. Air Force a high-tech aircraft for use in orientation, training, flight proficiency and search-and-rescue missions, and the organization is planning to expand its activities and role in the community. The organization’s activities include teaching leadership, aerospace and aviation, safety, search and rescue, tactical and rescue communications, first aid and citizenship to teens and adults.

The CAP is a 75-year-old Air Force-sponsored auxiliary activity and is looking to grow with its new aircraft and pilots.
