  • Mississippi’s two U.S. senators say 19 airports in the state will benefit from more than $4.49 million in Federal Aviation Administration grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation.

U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, in a news release Thursday, said the grants will help Mississippi communities improve the safety and efficiency of their airports.

U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker says the airports will benefit from the investments in infrastructure and safety upgrades.

Among the airports receiving funds are: Stennis International Airport in Hancock County, which will get $673,675 for apron expansion to accommodate increased use of the general aviation facilities; the Greenwood-Leflore Airport, which is in line to receive $673,675 for taxiway construction and $491,166 for Tunica Municipal Airport’s runway rehabilitation and installation of a new runway visual guidance system.
