  • Local Chesapeake Sport Pilot flight school owner, manager and instructor Helen Woods was recently recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration as both the Baltimore District and Eastern Region FAA Flight Instructor of the Year. This award, granted through the General Aviation awards program recognizes, amongst other things, outstanding professionalism, dedication and service within the field.

The GA Awards Program is a cooperative effort between the FAA and more than a dozen industry partners. The selection process begins each September at the Flight Standards District Office level before moving up to the regional FAA office level.

Baltimore Flight Standards safety program manager Jerry Pratt presented these awards to Woods at the recent Chesapeake Sport Pilot open house.

“While I am honored to be acknowledged with these awards, I realize these awards actually honor the hard work of Chesapeake Sport Pilot’s incredible staff and community of volunteers. It is only together that we are able to achieve the professionalism, dedication and service to the aviation and Kent Island communities that is recognized through these awards,” Woods said.
