  • Dozens of local World War II veterans went to the nationals capital to visit the memorial to their service and sacrifice on Sunday.

Honor Flight New England took off from the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport bright and early.

This honor flight headed for Washington, D.C., taking 61 veterans to the World War II memorial, including three female veterans and a big contingent from Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord.

The group will return Sunday evening.

This was the 39th honor flight. On Nov. 1, Honor Flight New England will have its 40th honor flight.

The group has transported more than 1,300 World War II veterans to see their memorial.
