A Department of Transportation grant will give the Abilene Regional Airport $16,481,915 for runway improvements.
The 2015 Federal Aviation Administration Improvement Program Grant consists of two parts, and the discretionary portion was accepted by Abilene City Council Sept. 10.
Earlier in May, Abilene voters approved a bond proposition to give the airport $4.2 million for runway, taxiway, and aircraft parking ramp improvements. This was passed to provide a 10 percent grant match to secure $38 million in AIP grants for a five year improvement program.
